Some customers wanted to purchase UGODE BMW 5 Series F10 and F11 products with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto functions, but they didn’t know the difference between a Linux screen and an Android screen, so they consulted us about the technical aspects.
Q:
Hi,
My car is a BMW F11 with NBT and all original BMW Bluetooth audio options enabled, including Bluetooth music streaming.
Is there a difference in Linux 12’3″/Android 12,3″ systems?
I want to install your Android/CarPlay screen, but I do not want to use the AUX-In in the armrest as the main audio source.
Please confirm this specific use case:
- I am listening to the original BMW FM/DAB radio
- My phone is connected to CarPlay / Android Auto on your screen
- Google Maps or Waze gives navigation voice instructions
- These navigation instructions must be audible through the original BMW speakers
- I do not want to manually switch the BMW source to AUX or Bluetooth audio
- I do not want a visible AUX cable in the armrest
Can your system do this on a BMW F11 with NBT?
Please answer clearly with either:
1. Yes, navigation prompts are audible while the original BMW radio remains active
2. No, the BMW source must be switched to AUX or Bluetooth audio
3. Only possible with an additional module or coding
Thanks.
A:
Hello,
The Linux screen does not have an operating system; it can only use CarPlay and Android Auto, and read USB drives. It cannot install apps, but it boots up very quickly.
The Android screen comes with an operating system, allowing you to install apps and offering better entertainment capabilities. It takes about 30 seconds to boot up.
The BMW NBT system transmits audio via the AUX channel. Most vehicles can transmit audio without connecting to an external AUX port, but a very small number of NBT-equipped vehicles require an AUX connection to produce sound. There is no way to resolve this.

— All the above features are supported. For BMW NBT, you can select “Auto Switch AUX” so you don’t have to manually select “AUX” every time.
